Why is Daily Prayer Important?

Daily Prayer

How healthy is your daily prayer life? Daily prayer is your time with God…when you feel the presence of God…when you communicate with God. Daily prayer is an important practice. It can benefit you mentally, physically and spiritually.

Why is Daily Prayer Important?

Daily Prayer Fosters a Personal Relationship with God

You know God as Creator, but how well do you know him as a friend? God wants you to be his friend. The choice is yours. If you accept the hand of friendship God extends, be prepared to spend time and energy developing a personal relationship with God.

Prayer is the vehicle that delivers communications to God. As Christians, we would do well, to emulate Jesus by persistently praying to our Father in Heaven.

And when you think you’re too busy to pray, just remember that some of the most precious moments in life are those we spend getting to know God.

Daily Prayer Triggers a Gratitude Attitude

Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer… – Maya Angelou

If you’re familiar with 12-Step Studies, you know it’s all about adopting a gratitude attitude. For instance, a person in Over Eaters Anonymous might be grateful for not consuming the whole bag of chips.

Gratitude prayers make a splendid starting place for your daily prayer practice. Because, at the end of the day, God is responsible for all the goodness in our lives. He is pleased when you feel blessed by a friend buying your lunch or your boss giving you a pay raise.

During difficult phases of life, expressing gratitude for the goodness you already have, opens space for new goodness to enter.

Daily Prayer Promotes Inner-Peace

Thou will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee. – Isiah 26:3

What is stressing you now? What are you worrying about? What situation has you desperately seeking answers? Having trouble sleeping? Can you spare 10 minutes in your day to talk to God about it?

Daily prayer, preferably at the same time each day, is the perfect forum to turn your worries over to God. This is called “let go and let God”, a prayer practice, which strengthens your God-connection bigtime.

Nothing. Let’s say together – Nothing. Nothing – i.e. fear, doubt, worry, loss, anxiety – can outdo God’s love. God’s presence is as near as your hands and feet.

Let go of your botherations and let God fill your mind with inner-peace.

Daily Prayer Originates Change

I used to believe that prayer changes things, but now I know that prayer changes us and we change things. – Mother Teresa

Oh, how humans resist change! We love discovering things for ourselves. We form habit patterns, some with potential to cause harm. We do things the same way we have always done them, even when we get the same disappointing results.

However, we will pray, like obedient little Christians, when struggles overwhelm us. But, we don’t get the answer we want, when we want it. Or, sometimes, so it seems.

These are times when God is working behind the scene, to guide us to positive inner-change. Persistent prayer will show you through your difficulty. Changes will occur in your life, almost as if by magic.

Daily Prayer Produces Results

All things whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. – Matthew 21-22

A longstanding myth has perpetuated itself that we shouldn’t pray for “things”. Not so, promises Jesus in the Holy Bible. Not that a prayer for results is the most powerful or highest prayer. But, Jesus realized that when you pray for a result and receive it, you will understand the power of prayer.

God wants to fulfill your needs and desires. First, you must ask for what you want.
