Ever feel like a dark cloud is hovering over you that fails to lift? Days like these are when you need Big faith. Pay attention to your faith daily, nurture it and when storms hit, you’ll be ready.
Let’s explore tips for keeping your faith alive.
Grow your Faith
“Because of your little faith. For truly I say to you, if you have a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Move from Here to there, and it will move and nothing will be impossible for you. – Matthew 17:20
Having a little faith is better than none. Keeping your faith alive means growing more faith.
Anytime we learn or enhance something, we start by gathering information. In the case of faith, we turn to the Bible. Here we pinpoint God’s promises and principles of faith.
After gathering scripture about faith, the next step is to study each verse, each word in each verse. Remember, humans learn by repetition.
So, it’s good to write out verses that call out to you, such as:
Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong. – 1 Corinthians 16:13
For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. – Ephesians 2:8
The Hall of Faith
When you have studied, perhaps memorized, isolated verses about faith, take a tour of “The Hall of Faith”, found in Hebrews Chapter 11. Hebrews is a study of the nature of faith and the magnificent results of putting your focus on faith. The Chapter opens with the definition of faith, according to the Bible:
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. – Hebrews 11:1
Faith grasps hold of the substance of things we desire and brings into the material world things that were unseen before. The writer of this Epistle to the Hebrews nails it in the 3rd verse:
By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. – Hebrews 11:3
It is by our faith that we understand everything we want is in the invisible substance surrounding us. And our faith is the power that can bring anything we want into our everyday reality.
But without faith it is impossible to please him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. – Hebrews 11:6
Keep on keeping your faith alive. Wander through the Hall of Faith frequently. It is always open to seekers.
…as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith – Romans 12:3
Operating on automatic, e.g. relying on the faith you were dealt, won’t get you to the Big faith. Feeding your faith on God’s word was a great start. Now, you need to take action steps for keeping your faith alive. For example:
Associate with Other Believers – God’s House offers the perfect opportunity to share faith-filled actions with other believers. Just for today, try getting involved in church activities. Faith is contagious; it rubs off on you.
Do Something Good for Children – Some churches sponsor homes for troubled teens. If yours does, take a teen to the movies or out for a nice lunch. Invite her to church. Another option is to be a Big Brother or Sister.
Right actions fuel our faith.
Begin where you are now keeping your faith alive. Promise yourself that you will also begin to express your faith through right action.
